What they are

The Institute of Flowers (IOF) is a not-for-profit membership body for professional florists in Ireland. It launched on 29 October 2024 at Bellinter House in Co. Meath and describes itself as the country's national body for floristry, set up to be the collective voice of the trade.

It was founded by florist Fionnuala McAuley, who brings over 20 years in the industry, alongside business coach Sinead Kieran. The IOF says it represents the more than 4,000 professional florists working across Ireland.

What they stand for

The IOF builds its work around five pillars: recognition, community, growth, succession and digital. In plain terms, that means championing florists as skilled professionals, building a supportive network, supporting business and career development, bringing new talent into the trade, and helping florists make use of technology in their shops.

It is a recognised member of Florint, the International Florist Organisation, and says it follows Florint's professional guidelines so Irish floristry sits alongside wider industry standards.

Who they serve

Membership is open to florists at every level across Ireland, from shop and studio owners to freelancers and students, plus suppliers and colleges. The IOF welcomes florists of all experience levels, and joining is by application and an annual fee.

Training and partnerships

Upskilling is a core focus. The IOF runs regular events and training, part-funded through Positive2Work Skillnet, and has announced a multi-year educational partnership with florist and educator Joseph Massie that runs to 2029, starting with a wedding and event masterclass in Ireland in October 2026. Members also get discounted access to international designers and specialist training.
